He would have a hard time reaching those heights again. He went on-loan to at first Oldham Athletic in England and then Cartagena in Spain before being released. He turned up in the Real Betis youth team trying to rekindle his career. He never gave up and he attracted the attention of first team coach Pepe Mel. Miki would help Real Betis, who were mired in Segunda, ascend to the Primera division in that very year. He was always positive, always elped his team-mates and he never gave up on his dream.
It is a harsh reality that sometimes we don't recover. Sometimes we don't have that one shining Hollywood moment at the climax of our story. Last March Miki held a press conference stating that his doctors had fund a tumor in his pelvis, grade 1 or 2, and they were optimistic that he would recover and return to play. The cancer never went away. It got worse and this weekend we lost Miki Roque.
He wasn't a superstar and he wasn't the sort of coverboy that we often get shoved down our throats. He was a good man whose life was unfairly cut short, but life isn't fair. It isn't just and there are no Hollywood moments. Every moment is special. Every moment should be savored. Live your life and treat people well. Miki Roque was 23 years old.
