Bird on a Wire: Espanyol Update

Signings: The club have signed Argentine central defender Diego Colotto from Deportivo La Coruña for three years. The player will reinforce the defense and considering that Raúl Rodriguez has also been secured for the next three years, this means that the club are more than likely considering the sale of Mexican international Hector Moreno. Jordi Amat figures to have some playing time there or on the wing, if he isn´t ceded to FC Barcelona as has been speculated about, but the club are typically strong in central defense and they can afford to move a player like Hector Moreno who has played only one year at Cornellà and will likely get them some money in return. Colotto, who did not fit in well under José Luis Oltra´s tactical set-up at Depor, is cheap (he joins on a free) and offers something that few of our starters bring to the table: a devastating aerial game.

Other News: American Trip: The original option according to Sport.es was to secure a series of matches against clubs in Mexico. Cruz Azul was mentioned, as was Pachuca which is where former captain Raul Tamudo signed, but the deal hinged on whether or not Atlante, which plays in Quintana Roo and is also sponsored by the bureau of tourism of Cancun, could make their league and cup schedules fit considering also that Espanyol will reunite at Perelada on the 10th of July. The club is looking to secure one or two matches in Miami, in August, and while opposition clubs have been finalised, the games in the United States make sense economically.
