The Ball is Flat - Summer Book Club

Every Summer over the last few years I have done a Summer Football Book Series, a few recommendations of my own to pass the lazy Summers by, but this year I have decided to actually run a book club, where you read in a group, you compare notes, drink tea and crumpets, and wait for the next Oprah show for the next book club recommendations. Unfortunately, since Oprah knows so very little about football (our brand of football I might add) I'll decide the list of books.

  1. A Season with Verona:  Travels Around Italy in Search of Illusion, National Character, and...Goals! - Tim Parks
  2. La Roja - How Soccer conquered Spain - Jimmy Burns
  3. Morbo: the story of Spanish Footbal - Phil Ball
  4. Tor: the story of German Football - Uli Hesse
  5. Calcio: a history of Italian Football - John Foot
  6. Brilliant Orange - the neurotic genius of Dutch Football - David Winner
  7. Inverting the Pyramid - the history of football tactics - Jonathan Wilson
  8. The Ball is Round - a global history of football - David Goldblatt
  9. Englischer Fussball - a german view at our beautiful game - Raphael Honigstein
  10. Barca - the making of the greatest t eam in the world - Graham Hunter
  11. The Miracle of Castel di Sangro - Joe McGinnis
I will be reading them in that order and commentating my reflections to them both here and on my twitter profile @theballisflat. Let me know if you'd be willing to join in.
